Epilepsy is a brain condition that causes a child to have seizures and is one of the most common disorders of the nervous system.
The brain is made up of nerve cells that communicate with each other through electrical activity. A seizure occurs when one or more parts of the brain bursts of abnormal electrical signals that interrupt normal brain signals. Anything that interrupts the normal connections between nerve cells in the brain can cause a seizure. In most cases, it’s not clear why this happens. Since about 1 in 3 people with epilepsy have a family member, it may be due in part to your genes that affect how your brain works. Sometimes epilepsy can also be caused by damage to the brain from conditions such as postpartum oxygen deprivation, brain infections, stroke, severe head trauma, brain tumor.
There are many different types of seizures. Consciousness can be on or off. Some are very short, lasting only a few seconds, while others may take a few minutes. Some may cause uncontrollable sudden movements, while others may cause confusion, blank eyes, and fainting. The type of seizure a person has depends on where in the brain the seizure occurs and how much of the brain is involved. prof. Dr. Burak Tatlı’s clinic (Pediatric Neurology Center)’s ultimate goal is to stop the seizures of epilepsy patients and to maximize the quality of life of patients whose seizures do not stop completely. In our clinic, we have 3 EEG rooms prepared for EEG recordings of patients. Awake, asleep, Sleep-awake, NPA – Activation, Sleep Deprivation, EEG is taken all night. In addition, EEG recording can be done at home with our 2 EEG technicians. After Prof.Dr.Burak Tatlı’s examination, EEG, genetic, metabolic tests and imaging techniques are evaluated according to the patient’s condition and treatment is arranged. 24/7 communication channels are followed openly in terms of response to treatment, side effects and effects.
