Questions You Can Ask Your Physician
When you go to a check-up or evaluation appointment, writing down the questions on your mind beforehand helps a great deal. Because in the office, in the excitement, you may forget the very thing you wanted to ask. The list below is a starting point; you can also add your own questions. Remember, no one knows your child as well as you do; if you have a feeling inside you that says something is different, sharing it is never a needless fuss — on the contrary, it is a compass that helps the physician look in the right direction.
About the general course of development
- Is my child's development progressing in the expected order for their age
- Do their movements look balanced, fluid, and varied
- Which skills can I expect them to gain at this age
- They were born early; should we evaluate their development according to corrected age
About my own observations
- I noticed this; in your view, is it a situation that needs attention
- I see this behavior at home; is it within a normal range
- I have a worry inside me; can we evaluate it together
About the next steps
- Is a developmental screening needed, and when
- Would it be appropriate for us to request a hearing test
- When should I come for the next check-up
- Do we need to get an opinion from a specialist, and in which area
What can I do at home
- How can I support my child during this period; are there simple activities I can do at home
- What do you recommend regarding screen use at this age
- If support is needed, what would be the benefit of starting it early
